The Kids Science Book, Awesome Ocean Science! and Geology Rocks! Review by Stacey Salmonson

Williamson Publishing
http://www.amazon.com/

Williamson Publishing has put out some great Kids Science activity books. Packed with fun, hands-on projects and lots of science terms and facts, Williamson Publishing has made doing experiments fun! There are references to evolution in all of the books, which will be distasteful to many homeschoolers; however, the Kids Science Book, as well as Awesome Ocean Science, has a great number of excellent experiments that do not infer or rely on evolution-based thought.

We have been able to incorporate a LOT of the information in these fun Activity Books. The Geology Rocks Book is the exception; it is very heavily rooted in the theory of evolution. We would not choose to use it in our homeschool.

The Kids Science Book and Awesome Ocean Science have proved to be useful resources in our unit studies in science class. I even used some of their experiments for my six days of creation unit study, though this is not the intent in the books. Many of the activities are just simple experiments to help one understand simple observable truths, such as air pressure, the water cycle, solar energy, and many animal facts.

The Kids Science Book is a really beneficial activity book. It covers topics like science all around you, becoming a good observer, and some history of methods of scientific observation. The book covers animals and how they are classified in the science world, plus your children will study plants, water, air, and light - in a fun way! A chapter on natural forces covers gravity, inertia, momentum, equilibrium, and magnetism. The projects in this book are very simple and require easily attainable materials that most of us have lying around our house. This is the type of book that makes studying science enjoyable for kids and moms.

Awesome Ocean Science is an activity book entirely devoted to studying the ocean and its creatures. Included in the book are facts about the ocean, like explaining estuaries (where freshwater runs to the ocean), the salt in the sea, the water cycle, and some geography of the oceans' glaciers - plus a lot more!

The Williamson Publishing Science Activity Books appear a good value. They can keep you busy with lots of interesting projects and information. It is not necessary to purchase expensive science kits to be learning all kinds of scientific facts and having a great time!
