My ten-year-old son has had a hoverboard on his “wish list” for over three years now so I was ecstatic to be able to present him with the Hoverfly ION Hoverboard recently. He squealed with glee when he opened the box and could hardly contain himself as he waited for it to charge.

The Hoverfly ION Hoverboard by GoTrax is a lightweight model hoverboard that weighs only 20 lbs. It can go up to 4 miles on a single battery charge and has 400 Watts of power. It has LED headlights and tail lights and a self-balancing feature. Riders can go up to 7 mph. This hoverboard retails for $199.99.

After initially charging the hoverboard, my son hopped on it and cautiously rolled around the room. It was pretty start-and-stop at first, but that is to be expected. The self-balancing feature is fantastic and is perfect for younger hoverboard riders to get the gist of balancing and taking off. Within an hour of time, my son’s confidence grew so much on it that he was able to pick up speed. After about a day of playing on it, he can whiz all around the room like an obstacle course and fly by at top speed. The hoverboard stops quickly too, when needed, so we have yet to have a crash. He spins like a toy top on it and makes everyone dizzy just watching. It is quite easy to control once you get used to it. It could stop on a dime.

The LED lights are a terrific addition to the hoverboard. The default color is blue, but they turn green when you are turning and red when you are about to hit something or are stopping. It does beep when you are getting close to bumping something, which is a nice touch. Everyone in our family loves this toy. All my children, from ages 4-12, have been able to get the hang of it. It has been ridden indoors and outdoors on sidewalks and in the street and performs great on all surfaces, including carpet. The charge lasts awhile before needing to recharge, which is nice since someone is constantly playing on it.

If you are in the market for a hoverboard, look no further than the Hoverfly ION. I cannot rave about it enough. It is so much fun! There have been zero cons. My kids are each saving up to buy their own, as they all want to play on it constantly and have lost no interest in it.
