The Pilgrim’s Progress, Audio Drama Part One - Christian, is a set of six hour-long CDs dramatizing John Bunyan’s book, The Pilgrim’s Progress, in “spellbinding drama.” The Pilgrim’s Progress CD set, from Orion’s Gate (a Jim Pappas Production) retails for $33.00. An MP3 version is also available, and there is also a short free excerpt available to download from their website.

The Pilgrim’s Progress has been a hard book for my children. We have a paper copy, but no one has gotten all the way through it. I’ve begun reading it aloud more than once, but we’ve never finished it. Knowing it had great value, I was quite excited to receive this dramatization from Orion’s Gate, in hopes that this time we’d get all the way through it. And we did! It became a great thing to listen to as my children lie in their beds. I’m not certain my littlest ones fully understood the story, but they enjoyed it. The older kids - about 8 and older - seemed to comprehend the story better.

The Pilgrim’s Progress is in modern English, has 77 actors, with original music and sound effects. It is considered virtually unabridged and faithful to the original story. I found the acting well done, and it easily kept the attention of my children. While it hasn’t become a complete favorite, I love that my children have heard the story, and look forward to the years to come as they listen again and continue to learn from it.

I’m so thankful for companies that work to produce quality entertainment for my family to listen to, enjoy, and grow from! I’d gladly recommend the quality produced by Orion’s Gate. If you’re looking for a fresh way to teach the story of The Pilgrim’s Progress, this is perfect.
