Do you have a student who is hearing about the upcoming presidential elections and asking questions? Do you have plans for your students to invest some time in learning about the presidential elections and the US elections process but want an engaging and interesting book for the study? Presidential Elections and Other Cool Facts by Syl Sobel, J.D. is just the book you are looking for. This paperback book is appropriate for elementary-aged students, and while it won’t challenge them, it could also easily be used by middle school students.

Written in an informed but accessible style, Presidential Elections grabs the attention of the reader from the beginning and walks through the process of electing the right person for the job. Focused on the presidential elections, the author engagingly discusses all aspects of the election process. From what the Constitution says to mistakes that have happened along the historical path, the writing doesn’t let go of the reader.

This book is a timely one for an election study because it is informative, clear, concise, yet full of unbiased fact. The author goes through the definition of democracy and how that fits into elections, the requirements for a presidential nominee, the campaign process and the electoral college, and the line of succession should something happen to the president. There is also a glossary, an additional resources listing, and an index. Topped off by tons of tidbits of trivia-style history throughout the book, Presidential Elections and Other Cool Facts will make a fantastic resource this fall for anyone studying the elections.
