My kids do not like to write. Creative writing, notebooking, copywork . . . They do not like any of it. But writing is so important. It is one of those skills that our kids need to have. There are so many things that we can do, abilities we are able to master, because we are able to write well.

The Gearing Up for Writing Notebook is a wonderful way to encourage our kids to write! My boys, who are eleven and seven, used these, initially under great duress. Haha

The very first page is full of tips—drafting, brainstorming, active works and descriptive words (because my boys need some new words when they write). My younger son loves robots—he loved the pages that had robots and showed those gears—get those gears moving, they say!

This includes pages for writing the sloppy copy and the gears where all the brainstorming happens. I especially love the revising and editing checklist: a great reminder for our kids to check punctuation, an excellent way to get them in the habit of proofreading.

It is such a simple little book yet such a gem. Everything we need to help our kids get creative and get writing. It’s a great way for our kids to keep a record, too, of their writing from the very first draft to the very last draft. Certainly, this bound book is a wonderful way to keep it altogether too.
