Mary of the Mayflower is a historical fiction novel. This paperback book retails for $13.95. Mary of the Mayflower is 192 pages in length. This book is targeted for ages 9-13.

Digging into her family lineage, Diane Stevenson Stone, wanted to write about the struggles faced by those coming to the New World on the Mayflower. The main character, Mary Chilton, is a descendent of the author. Mary and her family, who live in Holland, decide to travel to the New World in search of religious freedom and a better life. Joining other Pilgrims, Mary and her family set sail on a dangerous journey where they encounter storms at sea, bitter cold weather, hunger, illness, death, and uncertainty.

This book was fabulous. The author does an amazing job of making you feel like you are experiencing the journey. The strength and courage of young Mary was truly inspirational. This book would be perfect to read aloud to younger children as well as an interesting read for teens and adults.

At the end of the book the author includes a map and drawing of the Mayflower. A list of passengers on the 1620 voyage is included. Mary Chilton Winslow’s Last Will and Testament is also included. Also included in the back of the book are the inventory of goods of Mary Chilton, interesting facts, a glossary of terms, people of interest, and much more. These helpful additions are a great reference tool. I would highly recommend this book.
