Write Back Soon! is a book by Karen Benke that can be used independently, without any other materials. This book aims to bring back a love of a lost art—letter writing. At a retail price of $16.95, this book contains a vast amount of writing ideas and suggestions. There is no way you can suffer from writer’s block with this book.

This book can be used for any young adults, whether they are homeschooled or attend public school. Even adults will find this book valuable. Letter writing is an excellent hobby, and this book is a perfect resource for this hobby. Some suggestions in the book include finding something treasured like an old photograph and sharing it with a relative along with a written note about the memory, or finding a specific reason to leave someone a short note telling her what she did to brighten your day or help you.

This is an excellent book for budding writers. My son is in 6th grade and loves to write letters. He used this book and the prompts to help him write letters to his pen pals and to his grandma. My mom, the recipient of the letters, even commented on how personable and thorough his letters are. Even if you don’t have a lot of time to write full-length letters, Benke includes plenty of suggestions for writing postcards to others. I love how this book simply encourages keeping in touch with others through the lost art of letter writing.

Overall, this is an enjoyable book. My son liked that there were plenty of spaces within the book to write down ideas. However, he ended up simply writing his ideas in the letters that he wrote. The only drawback to this book is that there is a lot of the color blue used in the layout. To some, it might be too much of one color or too colorful.

If you or one of your children would like to have a pen pal or just reconnect with family and friends through the old-fashioned art of letter writing, this is the book for you. This book introduces letter writing to younger kids who might not be familiar with it and gives plenty of prompts and ideas for writers of all ages.
