This is the tale of a little Yup'ik Eskimo girl, whose determination and persistence help bring a rebirth of traditional dance back to her Alaskan village. Working together, Lucy and her grandfather demonstrate for the townspeople their beautiful traditional dances. Other Yup'ik cultural arts are included in this story, such as drumming, singing, woodworking, and storytelling through dance. The author's note at the end of this book includes a pronunciation guide for some Yup'ik words found in the text. This book would make an interesting addition to a study of Native Americans, geography, or cultural studies. I hope you and your students enjoy this delightful and thought provoking book!
