I'm always looking for things to keep my 3-year-old daughter occupied while I'm working with my older children. I was thrilled to get the chance to review My Many Colored Days kit. The kit includes the board book My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss, a music CD, 10 nylon scarves measuring 27" X 27" in 10 colors, and a strip of Velcro to hang the scarves on. The entire kit comes in a hang-up bag and costs $29.99.

The idea of the kit is to incorporate literature and learning with music and movement. You can read the book as your child explores the scarves. There is a colored scarf for each color in the book including; yellow, blue, red, brown, yellow, gray, orange, green, purple, pink, and black. The music CD has a classical song selected for each color, plus a track entitled Many Colored Days, and Mixed Up Days. The first 13 songs on the CD are short pieces that are approximately 20-30 seconds in length. Nine of the songs are then repeated in full length. Some examples of the songs are "Flight of the Bumble Bee" for the color yellow, "The Entertainer" for the color gray, and "Moonlight Sonata" for the color purple. The scarves are made of durable nylon. My daughter has done a lot to these scarves, and they have held up. I do have one word of caution: do not use the Velcro to hang the scarves on. The Velcro does catch and can snag the nylon. Other than that, we haven't had any problems with the durability of the scarves.

My daughter has really enjoyed this kit. She calls the scarves her "colors." I think this kit is a great way to introduce color, classical music, movement, and literature to young children. We have had a great time exploring the endless possibilities!
