Mrs. Robbins wrote The Governor's Story as a living history book in an effort to tell the story of the recovery of the Bradford Manuscript in a readable and engaging manner. Her desire was to show the providence of God in the preservation of the manuscript of Governor Bradford during the earliest days of our country's history. She wanted this story to be available to those who would not have the time or patience to read through the original manuscripts.

Mrs. Robbins tells the story of Governor Bradford and his manuscript through the voice of the Honorable Roger Wolcott, who was the governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and had the responsibility and honor of preserving the manuscript until it was restored to the people.

The book is a good story of the early days of our country's development and from a Biblical perspective. It would probably be a good living history book for an upper middle school or high school student, or possibly a read aloud for younger children. It would make a good companion to Mrs. Robbins study guide called How the Pilgrims Came.

Personally, I found the book somewhat boring and tedious, but there would be many who would find it engaging. I will say that Mrs. Robbins does an excellent job of tying the sovereignty of God into the study of history.
