Elk's Resolve Review by Kim Kargbo

Elk's Resolve picks up where Nan's Journey ends. Elk is the son of Nan, who was stolen from her at birth and sold to Indians who raised him as their own. Elk runs into his twin brother by accident when he leaves home as a young man to seek out who he is. He has been raised by a kind and God-fearing Indian family that loves him dearly and has always treated him as an equal, though there were some in their small village who rejected Elk because of his pale skin. Finding his birth family, who didn't know that he existed, takes each family member on a journey of questions and answers and the finding of love.

Elk's Resolve, like Nan's Journey, is an engaging novel set in the newly settled West during the 1800s. The issues involved in the story do not lend themselves well to young audiences, so many homeschooling families would not necessarily find an application for it. The messages of redemption and the healing of Christ are paramount, however, and mature readers would find it a powerful read.

I enjoyed Elk's Resolve tremendously and eagerly await the next two books in the series, which are currently being written. I recommend this series to adults or mature high schoolers who enjoy a good historical fiction novel with a spiritual flavor.
