D is for Democracy Review by Teri Lucas

Do you want to teach your students about democracy in a creative and fun way? Being no exception to Sleeping Bear Press's outstanding quality and beauty, "D" is for Democracy does just that. From our government's structure and basic definitions, to understanding our domestic rights and privileges, and exercising our responsibilities as citizens this book has it all. "A" is for Amendment, a fancy word for change. Combining both simple text for the young reader and a detailed side text for the more advanced student once again allow for multi-level teaching. This excellent book is able to serve beautifully as an outline to your unit study on democracy, the government, or America.

Perfect to highlight a study of this year's presidential election, the book ends with an exhortation for every citizen to get involved. A two page layout is simply filled with ideas to get your student participating in our governmental process's giving concrete examples of 5 children aged 14 and younger who made a difference by taking action. "D" is for Democracy is a stimulating read-even as a reminder to parents that one person can make a difference in this world!
