With Art in Mind Review by Kate Kessler

Bob Jones University Press
http://www.bjup.com

This is a very complete and beautiful art instruction book! I was excited to see such thorough art lessons that teach art concepts, not just color in the lines and connect the dots. With Art in Mind covers important art elements and principles that help “students to develop basic skills that are useful in all areas of life and learning” and I would have to agree with that completely! The 60 art lessons are laid out in simple format with easy-to-follow directions that do not require previous art knowledge orskill. This colorful book is filled with completed art projects or great examples of each lesson. Different art media your student will experiment with are black markers, drawing ink, chalks/pastels, colored markers/crayons, colored and regular pencils, cut paper, tempera paint and watercolors. The lessons are grouped into units using the particular media of that unit. When my seven-year-old daughter saw this book she was thrilled to see so many different things in it that she will be able to experiment with! It is a book that your children will pick up and ask, “Can we do art today?” You will be thrilled with what your child can learn and accomplish with one simple book! Highly recommended!
