Recommended for ages nine and up, Tools of the Ancient Greeks: A Kid's Guide to the History & Science of Life in Ancient Greece is a 148-page comprehensive study. Chapters include such topics as Sports and the Olympics, Architecture, Philosophy, Farming, Trade, the Greek Way of Life, and Warfare in Ancient Greece.

If you want a myriad of information that is clearly written and nicely organized, you won't be disappointed. I especially like the all-in-one feel of the book; this book could stand on its own for a solid study. Fifteen hands-on activities are included. Build, bake, sculpt, hold your own Olympics, or try one of the other activities as you experience ancient culture. You will find plenty of biographies, vocabulary, maps, drawings, photos, and interesting trivia in this Ancient Greece study. The list price of $16.95 seems reasonable for a book that pulls together the subject so practically and completely.

This book is not a glossy, colorful one that will wow you at first glance. However, a little time spent reading it will allow you to appreciate the simple yet thorough presentation of information. Whether you purchase this book for a unit study or just as a book for your children to browse, they can come away with a good understanding of Ancient Greece.
