Are you looking for something deeper in a history than the usual recounting of Columbus, Colonies and Constitutions? This book will help you understand the Biblical foundation of our nation and give you a vision for its continuation in modern life. This book clearly and concisely traces the work of the hand of God, from creation to our current need for reformation. Far from a rudimentary retelling, it attempts to give us the background of the development of our great nation. That background is the Bible and the men who cherished it.

The book next traces the development of civil government, originating at the Flood, for the purpose of protecting the life, liberty and property of individuals, by punishing evildoers and encouraging the righteous. How far we have some from the ideal of God's sovereignty over the home, church and state!

Moving next to Europe, the authors next give us the background information for the pilgrims and settlement of the colonies. I especially appreciated chapter eight on the history of education in America. Any parent who does not know our rich educational heritage needs to learn this foundational history! It will inspire and encourage.

Other topics covered in the text are the role of the church and clergy, the American Christian Revolution, Christian principles of government, economics and foreign affairs. At the end of the book, the authors discuss their hope and prayer for a reformation in America and give us the seven principles of liberty.

The Providence Foundation has other materials to assist in our study. America's Providential History, A Documentary Sourcebook would be a great companion to this study. A Teacher's Guide is also available for both of these books, containing questions, supplemental readings, chapter outlines and tests.

The book is recommended for junior high and above. This is definitely not for the younger set, although even our youngest should know the Biblical foundation of our nation.
