B Is for Bagpipes: A Scotland Alphabet

This is a gorgeous hardcover containing 40 pages. On each page it has wonderful illustrations and sidebar information about Scotland and things Scottish. While the book is in an A, B, C format, it can be enjoyed by all ages. The publisher says it is specifically for ages 4-8, but I myself enjoyed it immensely. What an excellent addition this will be to our geography lessons when we study the British Isles!

The book begins with a map of Scotland, and then "A is for Auld Lang Syne." The sidebar tells about the typical New Years celebration in Scotland. And of course "B is for Bagpipe." My favorite page is "O is for Oatmeal," better known as porridge in Scotland. We loved the porridge in Scotland so much that we have been buying imported oatmeal ever since because it is so yummy. Another favorite page is "Y is for Yule or Yeel," what we call Christmas. The illustration of the family enjoying a typical Christmas meal looks like so much fun it makes you want to be there.

The whole book is chock full of interesting information about Scotland, and I feel so lucky to have a copy. I believe any child or adult would treasure this book. The list price is $17.95.
