A-Z Crawly Critters Cursive Penmanship, Grades 2-4 (e-book)

By Joy Marie Dunlap and Jonathon Dunlap
Light Home Publications

A-Z Crawly Critters Cursive Penmanship, Grades 2-4 e-book was developed by Joy Marie Dunlap and her son Jonathon Dunlap. It was designed specifically for homeschooled boys, with the creepy, crawly theme of bugs, snakes, lizards, and other small creatures.

This e-book is a 55-page PDF document. Once you have downloaded it to your computer, you will need Adobe Reader to open and print it. Designed for students who are just learning traditional cursive penmanship (grades 2 - 4), it is fully reproducible. You can print this e-book as many times as needed for your own family use.

The e-book begins with 5 pages of tracing the cursive letters, grouped by letter shapes. The fifth page also includes short words to trace, which provides practice in joining the letters together. Each of these 5 pages is long enough to be two or three days' worth of penmanship practice for the younger students. Included at the end of the e-book is a final page of animal names to trace.

The main portion of this e-book contains 26 alphabetic pages. For each letter of the alphabet there is a sentence to trace and then copy, including a boys name and a crawly critter. Alliterative sentences are used to encourage practicing the featured letter. Each letter page includes a picture of the animal and ends with a challenge to think of other animals that start with that letter.

There are also 15 quality coloring pages that include information about the featured animal. These provide additional learning as well as rewards for practicing cursive handwriting.

My son enjoyed the animals on each tracing page and the coloring pages very much. Penmanship isn't his favorite subject, and he isn't very excited about learning cursive, but the animal theme and coloring pages provided some motivation for him.

A-Z Crawly Critters Cursive is an excellent penmanship e-book for teaching traditional cursive penmanship to young students. You could also use it to teach remedial cursive to older students. It is well priced and a good value for families, since it can be reprinted for your current student or future family members.
