Melody's Beat is an interactive music curriculum. It includes lessons on DVD, a workbook, an egg shaker, and rhythmic sticks. You will need to provide a ball, a hula-hoop, a drum, and a xylophone. In each level the students will learn rhythm, melody, composition, note recognition, and many other basic and advanced music concepts.
With Melody's Beat you will step right into Miss Melody's music classroom. Her lessons are on DVD, and she has several helpers who work alongside her to show your child what to do. Miss Melody uses running, jumping, and many other fun interactive methods to teach music concepts. Each lesson is meant to be watched several times over a period of a week so that the repetition will help your child really learn the concepts. There is a weekly worksheet that helps to reinforce what was taught on the DVD. This music program was created for homeschool families, so you don't have to modify it for home use! Levels
1 and 2 are for elementary age students. This program would work well for any homeschool family but would be especially useful with a child who learns through movement.
My children and I really enjoyed this curriculum. I think the best part is that kids get to learn through movement and repetition! The children liked all the jumping and making rhythm on different household objects!
You have to purchase several items such as a xylophone and drum in order to participate
in the curriculum. The company recommends www.westmusic.com, but they can be
purchased anywhere and within a family's budget. Also, sometimes the DVD moves
a bit too quickly to fully understand the concepts being taught.
While I really liked this music curriculum and thought it was fun, I would not recommend it because there are too many items that the parent needs to provide that are not included in the curriculum kit.
