Who couldn't benefit from an in-depth study of the Proverbs 31 woman? Kim Kargbo has created a small unit study to do just that, and she encourages boys as well as girls go through the study. Why? Well, boys will one day be finding a wife, and it's just as important for them to find a godly wife as it is for girls to learn to be godly wives. Good point, huh?

The unit is suggested to last between eight and ten weeks, during which time the students memorize and illustrate a block of verses. In the back of the book, each verse is typed on its own page so that the child may illustrate the verses and have a nicely completed notebook of the passage by the end of the study.

Also included are five language arts ideas and worksheets. They cover the topics of verbs, linking verbs, antonyms, nouns, adjectives, and vocabulary. Five additional Bible activities are suggested as well. These encourage the student to add inflection and emphasis as they memorize the entire passage, discuss the passage and how it relates to modern times, and complete a couple of worksheets on character quality.

The study references the NIV version of the Bible, but you could easily implement your preferred version if you desired. There is no particular age level given for the study, but my estimation is that it would be most appropriate for grades 3-8. The unit is comb-bound with cardstock covers--not fancy but usable.

Although language arts ideas are given, they are not intended to be an entire eight to ten weeks of language arts study. Besides Bible, language arts, and illustrating, no other subjects are included. In our family, we chose to use this unit as Bible study for about a month. I added the language arts activities into the day about once a week. By the end of the study, my fifth grader had done pretty well memorizing the passage!

Although the activity ideas aren't abundant, I found the unit to be a very simple addition to our schooling. In other words, I was able to read through the unit quickly, decide how we were going to use it, and then lay it in front of my daughter without much preparation. That made me smile!
