"Dragons in our Midst," a Christian fantasy series for preteens and young adults, consists of four books. Each book takes place during the medieval time period. In Raising Dragons, the first book in the series, we are introduced to the main characters, Billy and Bonnie, both 15 years old. Bonnie is a new student at Billy's school. Soon, Billy figures out that he is part dragon and that Bonnie is part dragon as well. They are forced to run from a dragon slayer to a mountain in West Virginia. Bonnie's faith in God is the only thing that can save dragonkind from this dragon slayer and a terrible fate.

The second book in this series is The Candlestone. In this book, Dr. Conner, a scientist, lures Bonnie to his lab. Bonnie believes that her mother has been dead for ten years, but Dr. Conner surprises her with the amazing news that her mother is alive. The scientist says that her mother is trapped inside the crystalline prison of the Candlestone and that Bonnie must go inside and get her out. When Bonnie is trapped inside the Candlestone, her only hope is for Billy to find a way into the Candlestone to rescue her and the other people who have been trapped inside for generations.

Circles of Seven is the third book in the series. Billy and Bonnie have to use their dragon powers and all of the wisdom they have gained in previous adventures as they explore a multi-dimensional realm of evil. There are seven worlds of evil for Billy and Bonnie to make their way through, and each world brings them closer and closer to the domain of a powerful enemy. The seventh circle holds a group of prisoners who were captured by the evil mistress. Billy has to set them free so they can have a new life. Tragedy strikes along the way, and Billy has to make a decision--to forsake Bonnie and save the prisoners or to find a way to save her too.

The fourth and final book in this series is Tears of a Dragon. The Watchers have been unleashed, and they are the most vicious, evil creatures in the universe, old as the Earth itself. Only dragons can beat the Watchers; and, with the great Clefspeare missing, Billy and Bonnie must lead the dragons into a war with the Watchers. The wisest of humans--friends of the dragons--unite in the struggle against the Watchers. But even that can't end the war. As the story ends, Billy and Bonnie must make an important choice.

I believe that this series rivals recent popular books such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Chronicles of Narnia, and even Harry Potter. I have already read the series twice and plan to read it again. I find new things in the books every time I read through them. I think the "Dragons in our Midst" series is a good set of books for people ages 12 to 20, and it is perfect for Christian kids who like to read fantasy books.
