As a classical homeschooler and an admirer of Harvey & Laurie Bluedorn, I was excited to be able to review this new resource from Trivium Pursuit. Ancient History from Primary Sources is not a textbook or a complete curriculum. It is however, a great resource book that includes just about anything you would need to know about ancient history.

The first part of the book is a "Timeline of Ancient Literature" beginning at creation through AD 476, which was the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The timeline is divided into five columns titled; Hebrew & Christian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek, and Roman. Most of the important people and events throughout all of history are here. Coming from a Christian perspective, they do give the important events in Christian history (i.e., Old Testament events, birth of Jesus, the crucifixion, and New Testament events) excellent coverage.

The next section of the book is "Author and Primary Source Index," which lists the ancient authors, gives their brief biographies, and lists of their literary works. Really great!

Included with the book are CDs that contain full translations of most of the literature listed in the book. I had fun looking at Julius Caesar's Gallic War written in the original Latin and comparing it with the English translation. Being a student of Latin myself, I was happily surprised at how much I could actually read.

I believe this new resource, Ancient History from Primary Sources, would be a great addition to every homeschooler's bookshelf.
