Homeschool Freedom

Every homeschool parent has their unique reason for why they decided to begin homeschooling. The majority of homeschooling parents would definitely list freedom and flexibility in their top five reasons and benefits of home education.

If you are new to homeschooling, it won’t take long before you discover your own “best reason” about home education. You may even already catch yourself saying “I can hardly wait until…”

For those of us who have been homeschooling for several years now, you will often hear us make comments like “I can’t wait for our curriculum to arrive” or “I can’t wait to organize our school year” or “I can’t wait for our school year to begin!” We, as homeschool parents living in Canada, have the privilege of choosing what curriculum best fits each child. We have the freedom and flexibility to organize our homeschool days to suit our family needs. One of the best parts of home education is allowing the student, our child, to learn at their own pace and take ownership of their education as we teach them the wonderful love for learning.

Below are the social media comments from homeschool families sharing about what is the best about home education. There are so many “bests” about teaching our children at home, and most homeschoolers could share a long list! You can check out and add to the post in The Canadian Schoolhouse Facebook Group, and we’ve collected a few good comments from different sources below.

best about home education

I have so many "bests" but to name one for now, I love being flexible with our time! And flexible with our learning programs. That's sort of two, but the flexibility in our lives is essential.

The freedom to teach with a Biblical worldview, freedom to spend time on areas where my children struggle, freedom to set things aside and study something we all want to learn about for a bit.

The best thing about home education, in my opinion, is that you truly get to "know" your child.

My FAVORITE benefit of homeschool is time with these cool kids. Parenting is HARD, but in my experience, more time together makes things better, not worse…

Among the numerous benefits of homeschool is an increased bond between siblings. As they learn together, cheer each other on, and explore the world as a team, siblings' love for one another grows.

One of the great blessings I’ve seen with homeschooling my boys has been teaching and modeling life skills.

FREEDOM! That is probably my favorite benefit of homeschooling. We are not tied down to a typical “work” week. So, when I found out that the boots I wanted were only available an hour and half away and they wouldn’t ship them to me, I didn’t hesitate to claim the day as a field trip day! We found a museum in the town and had fun exploring…

I love that with homeschooling children can learn at their level. Whether they need more time to figure it out or are ready for the next challenge, it’s an education tailored to their individual needs. Nothing compares to that!

Homeschooling isn’t just for the kids; it affects your whole family for the better.

Added to the list why I love homeschooling . . . no morning rush. We can enjoy the morning weather before the unbearable heat sets in & get those wiggles out before sitting down to school.

I love homeschooling for many reasons, but seeing how crucial it is that this child has had neither labels nor limits placed on her has been the thing I’m most grateful for and keeps me going. I love watching her very different-thinking brain at work and to be there to guide her as she goes.
