August 2013 Schoolhouse Expo- Andy Harris: Build Your own Computer Game for FREE!
Kids and parents will want to watch this together! Andy will show you how to build basic games using the incredible Scratch tool from MIT, for free! Learn how Today!
Fire up your laptop for this fun interactive session on building your own video games for free. Andy Harris (TOS Tech Homeschooler and the author of numerous programming and game development books) will take you through the process of building your own video games for free. Kids and parents will want to watch this together. If you’ve got a second computer, have it fired up so you can follow along and build games as we go. Andy will show you how to build basic games using the incredible Scratch tool from MIT. Learn about sprites, movement, collisions, conditions, and variables. Then, see how modern mobile and web-based games can be built for free online using tools he has created and is giving away. Any relatively recent computer will be fine (Windows, Mac, or Linux) but tablets may not be sufficient for the programming part. No previous programming experience is necessary, and you won’t need to purchase anything else to participate in this workshop. I strongly encourage parents and kids to participate together so you will be able to help each other. We’ll archive the talk so you can review it later, and we might even have a contest for the best original homeschool game.
