The One Ministry That Fills Your Building, Grows Your Church, and Serves Your Community
Turn your church’s empty weekday space into a thriving homeschool ministry that functions as a Christ‑centered co‑op. Partner with The Schoolhouse Network to host families who bring their own curriculum while your congregation offers space, mentorship, and spiritual care. This cost‑free outreach strengthens your community, disciples the next generation, and draws families naturally into your church family.
Pastor, what if there was a way to use your empty weekday space that actually brought homeschooling families to your Sunday services?
Picture this: It's Tuesday morning, and instead of empty hallways, your building buzzes with parents and children pursuing excellent Biblical education. Retired teachers from your congregation mentor young homeschool mothers. Your fellowship hall fills with families sharing lunch together. Visiting families start asking about your Sunday services.
This is what happens when your church hosts a Schoolhouse.
What You're Really Creating
A Schoolhouse isn't just a co-op that meets in your building—it's your church's ministry for homeschooling families. You own it, oversee it, and decide how it operates. The families using your space become part of your extended church family, creating natural opportunities for them to connect with your congregation and Sunday services.
This initiative supports parents as primary educators while creating powerful opportunities for discipleship and community building. Families arrive with their own complete curriculum—lesson plans, answer keys, and full courses in hand. Your church provides the space, spiritual oversight, and pastoral care, not the educational materials.
Ministry That Uses Every Gift
Your existing congregation members finally have a meaningful way to use their unique skills in service. Remember Mr. Thompson, the retired teacher looking for ways to serve? He could lead geometry classes. That engineer in your men's group could teach advanced math. That home chef mom in your congregation could teach cooking classes or sourdough workshops. Suddenly, your people have a purposeful opportunity to serve using their specific gifts while helping families.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the church to truly train up and make disciples." —Pastor Paul Miller, Calvary Chapel Tri-Cities, TN
The participating Schoolhouse parents lead the primary instruction, while the Director oversees and coordinates operations. Church members may contribute their skills and expertise, creating a well-organized, church-wide program.
Easier Than You Think
Your role requires the same oversight as any church ministry—you set policies and participate as much or little as feels right. Appoint a seasoned homeschool parent from your church or community to serve as Director—managing daily operations while you provide spiritual leadership. The Director partners closely with The Schoolhouse Network and is compensated directly by the Network, with no financial responsibility to the church at all.
Families bring their own materials, stay with their children throughout the day, and clean up after themselves. This costs your church absolutely nothing while providing space for a self-sustaining program that serves your community.
What Success Looks Like
Most Schoolhouses meet 1-2 days weekly during school hours (August through May). You choose morning sessions, full days, or any schedule fitting your church calendar. Churches across Tennessee, Washington, California, South Carolina, and South Africa are successfully operating Schoolhouses.
"Welcoming and close-knit—we made so many wonderful memories this year. I love the family atmosphere and that it is all Christ-centered." —Helena Fortner, TN Schoolhouse mom
When you become known as "the church that serves homeschooling parents," you attract precisely the type of people that strengthen congregations. This isn't another program competing for your time—it's an outreach that happens in your space while you continue normal pastoral duties.
Your Next Steps
You only need 3-5 families to launch successfully, and the program scales beautifully for large churches serving 100+ families. Most churches begin in late August/September or start fresh in January for spring semester.
