Homestyle Chili - Family Recipe

Course: Side Dish

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 large stalks of celery, diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 1 can of mushrooms or 1 cup of fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground oregano
  • 1 tbsp. ground cumin (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 can of kidney beans (drained)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1-8 oz. can tomato sauce

Method
 

  1. Over medium heat, cook the hamburger, spices and vegetables together until the meat is browned and vegetables are cooked.
  2. Add the can of kidney beans and stir.
  3. Add the can of diced tomatoes and stir.
  4. Add the tomato sauce and stir.
  5. Simmer until it is nice and hot, at least 10 minutes or more.
