The Word Is a Powerful Tool

theword

Authors have a unique opportunity to share their ideas through their writing with all who would read their work. Their words become a powerful tool. In Selected Works of Charles Dickens, Dr. Steven Hake examines the motivations of Charles Dickens, his development as an author, and the themes of several of his major works, including Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Bleak House, David Copperfield, and A Christmas Carol, as well as a biography of the author. This advanced literature course for high school students provides discussion questions in the form of weekly written assignments, along with one-page journal entries, and a ten-page final paper. When it’s time for students to share their own ideas, they can use the knowledge they gained in How to Use Microsoft Word® to produce an exceptional paper or story. Through her eight-week course, Dawn Winters provides elementary through high school students an introduction to Microsoft Word, beginning with the basics of the toolbars and status bar and working through highlighting text, using the format painter, displaying non-print characters, formatting paragraphs, inserting symbols and page breaks, using spell checker and autocorrect, adjusting the contrast of an image, and much more. Word(s) really can be a powerful tool!
