HwH - Can We Homeschool One More Year

This is the question that I begin asking myself before the previous year is even over. Can we homeschool one more year? This is a pressing question in lots of ways for me.

First, I am even doing enough to make sure that my children are getting the education that they need as well as the one that they deserve. Have I done enough to ensure that they have well-rounded educations? Have we done enough field trips? Done enough hands-on crafts?

These may seem like silly questions to you but to me they weigh heavy on my heart and my soul. I know that without a doubt God has called me to homeschool my children. What I am most worried about is that fact that God chose me to under take this mighty task and I do not always feel qualified to handle it.

But I am then reminded that God knew my plans well before I ever did.

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet before nations.” (NIV)

Psalm 139:13 – “For you created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (NIV)

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, “ declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

Second, this question pertains to more than just how I feel. I think about my children. Do they like homeschooling as much as I do? Are they learning in the environment that is beneficial to whom God wants them to be?

Have I given them ample opportunities to grow and learn at their own pace without having the world place unreasonable expectations on them? Are these children getting the absolute best for their hearts and souls?

As I ask myself these questions I am relieved that God brings these to mind.

Deuteronomy 6: 7 – “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk oif them when thou sittest at the table in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risenth up. (KJV)

Psalm 1:3 – “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf will not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (KJV)

Jeremiah 17:7-8 _ “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who confidence is in Him. There will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to beat fruit.” (NIV)

Last, Who am I to question God?

He knows my heart, He sees how idle or diligent I am. So, the question remains, not can I homeschool another year, but that I have only so many more years to homeschool?

Proverbs 3:5 – “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding but in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” (KJV)
