What’s New in Home Economics and Literature Kits

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

Finding who we are—one lesson many of us struggle to learn. Our new Home Economics teacher, Heather Leach, looks at the struggle in a unit on Personal Appearance, and Marla Schultz’s Literature Kit on The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis examines this struggle in her new November lesson.

It’s an honor to introduce you to our new Home Economics teacher, Heather Leach of Homesteader Home School. Here’s what she has to say about her class:

“This course is designed with children ages 6—12 and special needs children in mind. Short and hands on with a focus on a new unit “theme” each month, the first unit will focus on Personal Appearance, Hygiene and Routines. You might be thinking that “the course titles do not sound like they have anything to do with ‘home ec‘.” Home Economics is more than learning about how to bake a cake or set a table, it is about learning fundamental lessons that can be built upon throughout life. The first unit will be setting a foundation for students to realize who they are, what they are good at and to encourage them to do their best in everything they do. These lessons will incorporate basic home economics tools along with some Biblical teaching for both boys and girls.”

Marla Schultz will lead your family through a C.S. Lewis classic, helping you to experience the story with all five senses by incorporating numerous activities and enrichment ideas for your family to enjoy as you read the tale together.
