Gena SuarezHey Mama,

Whether you have two children or a dozen, teaching more than one child can be a challenge. See how some of our magazine writers deal with homeschooling and teaching multiple levels.

Ten Tips for Managing a Multi-Level Homeschool – Malia Russell

Teaching Multiple Ages – Kristen Hamilton

As you homeschool, remember …

A decade from now, those little monkeys will be big. Maybe even grown up. Your life will be VERY different than it is now. Maybe less chaotic. Maybe fewer cookie crumbs on the floor. Maybe less spit-up and tear-soaked shoulders; your clothes will actually stay dry for 24 hours straight.

You’ll miss it, Mama. It’s wildly madhouse-crazy now, and a break would be nice. But just know, a decade from now you are going to sometimes yearn for what you have now. Look at those faces good and hard now. They’re little, pudgy, silly, carefree. They scrunch up, still, when they’re laughing.

A decade from now life may be calmer. More civilized. More dignified. Quieter.

Maybe too quiet.

Enjoy them now, Mama.

Image of Family

Stores that sell everything from apples to furniture polish have changed the way many of us shop. Accomplishing more than one thing in the same amount of time is always appreciated. Wouldn’t it be nice if homeschooling offered something similar?

Would you like some good news–it does! The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s curriculum arm, SchoolhouseTeachers.com, enables you to teach multiple grades simultaneously. Consider just a few of our nearly 100 courses:

  • Literature with Adam Andrews: Adam leads your family through an analysis and discussion of literary works with questions and story charts. His questions range from elementary to high school levels, but he often uses elementary texts as his study focus. This not only proves the value of great, twaddle-free children’s books, but allows you to study with a wide range of ages, tailoring your questions and discussions as needed.
  • Art Techniques with Brenda Ellis: Brenda focuses on one artistic medium each month, giving you step-by-step instructions on how to create your own masterpiece. Students of any age can benefit by her straightforward lessons and consistent encouragement to simply be your best.
  • Classical History with Jennifer Courtney: Jennifer provides a tour of history from ancient times to the fall of Rome. She includes many ways to tailor your study to the ages you have, from elementary through high school.
  • Everyday Easels: This art appreciation study on the Schoolhouse Dailies tab explores a different work of art every two weeks. Projects and assignments are given for multiple grade levels, kindergarten through high school.
  • French with Greg Shone: Greg has two years of French lessons that are straightforward enough for elementary students yet provide enough material for high schoolers.
  • And those are only a few of the courses we offer for the entire family!

“I look forward to THM every Wednesday. I really enjoy Deborah’s articles. For some reason, it must be God, she always writes about what I am needing to hear. Her ability to put scripture and God in the middle of all her articles keeps me coming back. I recently have been enjoying the Youngs’ [articles] because I have a young man (10) in my house. The encouragement of the Youngs is fabulous. I thank God for parents like them that pave the way for parents like myself and my husband.”
