A Necklace for Jiggsy Review by Brandi Tesreau

Tired, lonely, and hungry, Jiggsy is just an ordinary junkyard dog until he finds a genuine diamond necklace. He's quickly named "King of the Yard," and life becomes a little easier for him. When he finds out the necklace is stolen, will he do the right thing and return it, or will he keep it in order to retain his royal status?

A Necklace for Jiggsy is a cute story with a good message. After reading, parents and young children can discuss the important lessons of being honest, having integrity, and considering others' interests above one's own. Seeing Jiggsy rewarded for choosing to do the right thing may encourage kids to do the same!

The suggested age range for readers is 4-12; however, I think it is best suited for the younger crowd. It would be great for toddlers and preschoolers as a read-aloud or for young children able to read on their own. My five-year-old daughter enjoyed listening to me read her the story, but then again, she loves all stories about animals--especially the ones about dogs!

My daughter and I liked the book, but I think the listed price of $10.95 is a little expensive for a children's paperback. Fortunately, the book can be purchased for less at Amazon and other online stores. A Teacher Work Guide Page for the book can be found here: http://jiggsyintheclassroom.blogspot.com/. This quality story is sure to put a smile on your child's face!
