Animal Antics A to Z Review by Christine Hindle

This delightful series of books, one for each letter of the alphabet, follows the activities of various students in Alpha Betty's School. I was given the books for A through D to review: Alexander Anteater's Amazing Act, Bobby Baboon's Banana Be-Bop, Corky Cub's Crazy Caps, and Dilly Dog's Dizzy Dancing. Each book concentrates on a specific letter and uses it repeatedly in the beginning, middle, and ending of words. While this sounds like it could be monotonous, the author manages to pull it off. The stories are very entertaining. The illustrations are a lot of fun as well. My little granddaughter has enjoyed these books. The only concern she has is, "Where's the Mommy?" In two of the books, Alexander Anteater and Dilly Dog, there is only a father mentioned.

The website has PDF files containing activities to download/print for each book. For instance, Alexander Anteater's pages include a worksheet where you cut pictures out and sort them into long a and short a sounds. In addition, there is a page with a words and instructions for the student to squat down when they hear the short a sound and stretch tall when they hear the long a sound. The last page is a recipe for a fruit snack that the children can make. There are also some activities listed on the last page of each book.

This delightful set of books would be a great addition to any homeschool library. Each book sells for $7.95 on Amazon, and they contain about 30 pages each.
