Elementary students are the focus of today’s post. One of our courses is Little Language Arts. This is currently a 35-week-course taught by Crystal Marcum that covers various literary genres and will look at topics including alliteration and the elements of poetry; visualization; nonfiction; autobiography; and more. Generally, each unit of four weekly lessons will be centered on a theme and include a project designed to last the duration of the unit. Students will work with new vocabulary and critical thinking questions. Crystal provides additional resources, such as websites, books, and video resources to further learning. Reader’s Theater with Susan Brown is a series of 76 short scripts designed to be read by two or more students. The focus on this form of drama is on reading the work with expression rather than reciting it. Children develop reading fluency through repetition and increase their comprehension since the text must be interpreted for performance. This course motivates children to read and improves reading skills, listening skills, and speaking skills. Children are also encouraged to work together.
