We want our children to know how to choose foods that will help them grow, foods that will give them energy for their bodies and minds, don’t we? Of course, we could use that knowledge ourselves. Though I went to college and became a registered dietitian, I “conveniently” forget how to eat properly. Thankfully, there are some resources on SchoolhouseTeachers.com to gently remind me. Take Family Nutrition with Jennifer Needham. This is a course for the entire family that helps us learn how to recognize the nutrients that will benefit us and choose foods with those nutrients. There is also a discussion about height, weight, and body mass index, and how those things relate to our health. Fourteen weeks of information about organic food, allergies and intolerances, energy-dense and energy-deficient foods, and more is available. Nourishing Nuggets with Wendy Stoller is a family health course that looks at the basics of nutrition such as macro- and micronutrients and then moves into studying what we eat and drink for various meals and snacks throughout the day. Wendy also talks about eating a whole-foods diet for those with allergies, supplementation, menu planning, and more.
