Gettysburg and Stories of Valor: Civil War Minutes III, narrated by Keith Carradine, is the third volume in the Civil War Minutes documentary series. This is a two-disc set, three hours in length, and comprised of 30 stories from the Civil War. Each of the 30 stories is about 5-10 minutes in length and includes photos, illustrations, some reenactments, and shots of modern-day battlefields.
The focus of disk one is the Battle of Gettysburg. Stories include, for example, Colonel Strong Vincent's defense of Little Round Top, Gettysburg National Cemetery, and the mysterious Devil's Den photographs.
Disc Two focuses on heroic and tragic moments in the Civil War such as the brutality at the Dead Line in Andersonville Prison, the loss of Brigadier General Alexander Hays, interesting medical and surgical histories, and the explosion at Allegheny Arsenal.
We love history and found this DVD set to be engaging and enjoyable. Our children, ages 6, 10, and 12, never moved while we watched the stories unfold. What a nice way to learn history, or reinforce what you have already learned. I recommend Gettysburg and Stories of Valor: Civil War Minutes III for families of all ages.
