This kit includes three pieces of soft suede leather with pre-punched holes, leather lace, and illustrated directions for assembly. The leather is very nice quality, soft and thick. Options are provided for decorating your completed vest. All you or your child needs to do is sew two side seams and two shoulder seams in a running stitch with the leather lace. The lace is stiff, so you do not need a needle, but little hands might have trouble threading the lace through the small holes. The vest is rather plain looking, so some kind of embellishment will probably be desired. We used a metal sheriff's badge to spruce ours up a bit. The directions include common Indian symbols that you might like to add using indelible markers or a wood burner. (An embellishment kit is available separately, or you can supply your own beads, buttons, and so forth.) This is a fun and easy craft that would make an enjoyable supplement to an early American history study.
