Author, mother, wife, lawyer, and homeschooler Christine Field has written another of my favorite books! Homeschooling the Challenging Child (HCC) is a must read if you have a child with learning disabilities, mental illness, discipline issues, personality conflicts with parents, or learning style disharmony. I think pretty much anyone will benefit from this book.
I have read all of Field's books, and each one is better than the previous book. This one did not disappoint me. I have four children. Each has a different personality and a different learning style. Some days my house is very chaotic and learning disharmony reigns. Reading HCC has sharpened my educational vision and encouraged me to move forward.
HCC includes 10 chapters, notes, and an extensive resource list. Chapter titles include: Defining Terms - Disabilities, Differences, Discipline, Personality, and Learning Style; A Disability Primer; Attention Disorders, Teaching the Distractible Child; and Planning a Program for the Challenging Learner. The resource lists includes information on where parent's can get help and support for their challenging child.
Reading HCC was like attending to a weeklong parenting seminar where the speaker had walked in my shoes. I did not feel depressed, frustrated, or overwhelmed after reading HCC; instead I felt encouraged, motivated, and uplifted. I will highly recommend this book to anyone who feels their child is challenging.
