First Look at Farm Animals is a sturdy 16-page board book that introduces children
to roosters, goats, horses, cows, ducks, sheep, pigs and dogs. This book contains
more than the average children's book; the text is not simply entertaining, but
I like how real words are used to describe the animals and their activities. Words such as gallop, canter, and graze are examples of these. The illustrations are also very engaging and pleasant. A mixture of lovely felt-art and accurate photography is used. The name of each animal is in a colorful font and is repeated two or more times. This is beneficial to children who are learning to read and makes a nice addition to the book.
First Look at Farm Animals is intended for children from 18 months to 5 years of age. I think some children younger than 18 months would also enjoy it. My 4-month-old looked at the pictures happily, my 5-year-old listened intently, and I enjoyed reading it.
My family was very pleased with this book. I highly recommend it to those with children 5 and under. It is fun, entertaining, and educational.
