The Investigate the Possibilities series from Master Books is a fun way to teach chemistry and physical science to 3rd to 8th graders. Each of the subjects I reviewed comes in a 3-book set or can also be purchased individually. Written in easy-to-understand language and creation science based, these books are a good addition to your homeschooling curriculum.

The first book in the set of three is the textbook. There are 20 different investigations that explore God's creation and the amazing world we live in, with colorful photos and illustrations on almost every page. For each lesson there is a handy list of things to gather, a list of procedures and observations to look for in the experiment, and questions to further the learning process. There is also a section in each lesson to show how these experiments can apply to daily life, and there are suggestions listed for further study and research. The Matter book has investigations on water, acids and bases, metals, and gases. And in the Forces and Motion book, lessons include friction, gravity, balance, and velocity.

The second book included is the Student Journal. This book coordinates with the textbook and gives a place for the student to record observations from the experiments. There is a place to write down any further research that is done on a lesson, and review questions further solidify what has been learned.

The third book is the Teacher's Guide. On each page is a small version of the corresponding textbook page, with objectives and further notes for the teacher below. Questions and answers from the student journal are also conveniently listed here. A few of the lessons have ideas for follow-up discussions.

I appreciated that in these books science and scripture were clearly taught side by side; Darwin, worldviews, and evolution are all examined from a Christian perspective. I also liked the many ideas for further study. There are some supplies that need to be purchased or gathered before the course is begun (a spring scale, graduated cylinder, and litmus paper), but most of the others could be found around the house. Each of these science courses could be completed in a semester, giving you a year of fun science experiments in easy-to-understand language from a Christian perspective.
