Animals of North America

Animals of North America is a 72-page copybook by LightHome Publications. It provides manuscript practice for second and third graders, older students who need practice with printing, or first graders who are strong readers and writers. Because it is an e-book, you will need to print out the worksheets for your child. You may use this book with as many children in your family as you'd like.

Animals of North America provides a paragraph of information about 26 different animals (one for each letter of the alphabet), followed by lines for your child to use to copy the paragraph. Animals covered range from the arctic hare and iguana to the desert tortoise and the grizzly bear, and the paragraphs are full of fascinating information. For each animal, there is a detailed picture to color after the penmanship practice has been completed, along with a few other fun activities. These activities include animal track matching and memory, a crossword puzzle, and a word search. This book also includes five sheets of ruled paper with animal pictures that are suitable for journaling or other creative writing endeavors.

This is a lovely copybook. The paragraphs are on the long side, and it often took my second-grade son two days to complete a page. However, older students or stronger writers could complete a page in a single session without much difficulty. Despite the length, my son didn't complain when it came time for penmanship practice because he enjoyed learning about the animals. Animals of North America would be wonderful as an addition to an animal study or simply as penmanship practice for any child who loves animals.
