God's Ten Commandments: Yesterday Today Forever Review by Dawn Oaks

One of the greatest visual reminders of the fight for good and evil in our society is the war that is raging over the displaying of the Ten Commandments in public places, especially on governmental property. Scripture tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Rev. Dr. Francis Nigel Lee expounds on this very issue in his text, God's Ten Commandments: Yesterday, Today, Forever. Dr. Lee begins his study in the book of Genesis, right in the Garden of Eden. He introduces the concept that the natural law that is innate within our souls is the original law. Because of the Fall of Man, God presented the natural law to Moses on Mt. Sinai in the written form of the Ten Commandments--the basic premise being that the Ten Commandments existed from the beginning of time in the very essence of God and were merely put into written form when given to Moses. The parallel drawn between the natural law of good and evil that God instilled in us from the time we were created and the written law through the Ten Commandments is the focal point of the text. Dr. Lee continues with discussion of New Testament teachings and also modern-day applicability.

This book is extensively based in theological terminology. The word choice would make this book most appropriate for college students and adults. Advanced high school students with extensive bible training may be able to digest the text independently. However, I believe that this would be the rare example.

God's Ten Commandments: Yesterday, Today, Forever
is a wonderful resource to be familiar with and also to suggest to those who argue against the validity of an "archaic code of conduct." Too many times we lose sight of the fact that well-educated and well-read Christian Soldiers make much better Warriors of the Word. This text is a perfect tool for helping the Christian Soldier fight the humanism, socialism, and relativism of our day.
