Study Earthquakes is a small informative book from the Science Works series. These books help children get into the field of science and teach them how a scientist works.

Study Earthquakes starts out by talking about what an earthquake is. It then proceeds through a myriad of science facts and terms as it tells the story of how scientists handle earthquakes and what they can do to predict them. Every page includes a section of questions so that the child can review the information on that page, which is a good idea because every page is packed with info. The information is so detailed that it is very easy for an adult to get lost, not to mention a child. The suggested level is K4, but I highly doubt a child in kindergarten would be able to decipher and take away much information. This book would be a good reference book or unit study for a 3rd or 4th grader. If the authors really wanted to help children learn better, they should have limited the amount of information on each page. The pictures are supposed to help children grasp information easier, but in this book they actually confuse the reader.

If you're looking for a quick reference book on earthquakes, this is the book for you. But if you really want to dig in and study all the facets about the wonderful field of seismology, you'd better find something else.
