U.S. Facts & Fun, Grades 1-3 is a 177-page workbook that teaches students in grades 1-3 about history-making events, fascinating people, and amazing sites. It is designed to present factual stories and fun activities that will "broaden the student's knowledge and appreciation of our diverse country." There are 44 stories, 33 comprehension activities, and 88 pages of fun activities such as crossword puzzles, hidden pictures, and mazes. The chapters have great titles like "Cow Catchers" and "The Cat in the Hat Man." There is an answer key at the back of the book too.

This workbook could be used by a single student who enjoys independent work. You are also permitted to make copies for use in a single classroom. The reading looks to be at a second-grade reading level. Although the book contains no adaptations for homeschool use, I think it could be useful to a homeschooling family that enjoyed workbooks and was studying U.S. history.

I liked using this workbook to provide my third grade student with independent work on a subject that we were covering together as a family. My student (who likes to color a lot) liked the workbook because there were many opportunities to color. We were also able to easily carry the book with us when we had appointments outside of the house; then the child and I could have something educational and fun to work on together while we waited.

If your child doesn't like to color or resists "busy work," then this is not a book for you. The only thing that I would change about the workbook is to have the table of contents ordered by date or by state so that it would make better sense.

Overall, U.S. Facts & Fun, Grades 1-3 is a book that I enjoy having as a part of our elementary study of the United States.
