The Bondage Breaker, Youth Edition Review by Nancy Wagner

This is a youth version of a bestselling book by Neil T. Anderson. It has an updated cover, and the contents have been adapted to be relevant to the concerns of today's young Christians.

There are only 14 chapters, but this could certainly be used as a devotional or a study for that length of time. The chapters are grouped into three sections. Part 1 ("Take Courage!") focuses on the existence of Satan and the battle for the Christian's mind and heart. Part 2 ("Stand Firm!") suggests ways to deal with evil, temptation, and deception. Part 3 wraps up with "Steps to Freedom in Christ," "Living Free and Staying Free," and "A Final Encouragement." Each chapter ends with Bible verses to read, questions to stimulate thinking or group discussion, and suggestions for prayer related to the chapter.

I asked my 12-year-old son to do some reading in it, one chapter at a time. Even as a "sheltered" homeschool child, he has become interested enough that he continues to come back to it to read more without being prompted. The reading level is not hard, although the subjects are intense with lots of ideas and a need for introspection. I feel it does require some assimilating of each chapter before going on, even for me as an adult.

I think this is a very good book--thought provoking and with good potential to deepen the young Christian's walk and understanding.
