Black Beauty's Early Days in the Meadow highlights original passages from Black Beauty and, in doing so, invites young children to enjoy this classic. The focus of the excerpt from Anna Sewell's novel is the foal Black Beauty, who narrates this tale of pleasant life in the English countryside.

The captivating illustrations invite you to visit lush green meadows where horses graze, frolic, and swish their tails in leisure. The warm, restful paintings well capture the easy life of the colt. The book's charm rests strongly with its lovely illustrations. There is little text or story line.

Who would best appreciate this book? My guess is the younger crowd, from two to six years old. If your young child loves horses, this book may turn out to be a favorite that is carried everywhere and read nightly.
